We’re suckers for all shades of blue paint, naturally. So when Behr released its 2019 Color of the Year pick—a hue that’s “warmer than denim and softer than navy,” they say—we were especially thrilled. “This universally appealing hue provides a steady stream of positivity and is poised to be an instant classic for years to come,” says Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at Behr. Paired with deeper blues, the color takes on a more dramatic effect; with wispy pastels, like Cotton Grey or Sand Dance, the hue evokes the breezy feeling of being at the beach.

That’s precisely why global color experts at PPG selected this rich, deep green shade as their 2019 Color of the Year. “The restorative power of nature is important in society now more than ever,” says Dee Schlotter, PPG senior color marketing manager. “[Night Watch] pulls our memories of natural environments to the surface to recreate the calming, invigorating euphoria we feel when in nature.”
